The Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), based in Girona, Spain, is offering a researcher position in the group of Resources and Ecosystems (RiE). The candidate will become part of a large team dealing with the study of the metabolism and fate of dissolved carbon in rivers, in the project CARBONET (CGL2011-30474-C02-01) The researcher will focus his/her research on the role of biofilm and suspended aggregates on carbon use and transformation in Mediterranean river ecosystems, both in lotic as well as in lentic water bodies.
 
Requirements:
 
- Bachelor in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
- PhD in these areas is of advantage.
- The position requires a complete understanding of the structure, metabolism, and ecology of microbial consortia, as well as a background on molecular biology, and has to show experience on field and laboratory procedures.
- The candidate has to prove the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment, with high level of communication and minimum supervision.
- Fluent English, spoken and written, is essential.

We are seeking a researcher able to take a leading role in BAS research on pelagic marine ecology, particularly in the response of zooplankton to variability and change in oceanic ecosystems. The work will consider key oceanic species, such as krill, copepods, salps and pteropods and examine their responses both at individual and population levels to environmental stress. Work will also contribute to the parameterisation of ecosystem processes such as carbon flux and nutrient regeneration. The researcher is expected to have specialist interests in population dynamics, molecular ecology and/or physiological processes.

PostDoc - Molecular Biology

Our group is based in Salamanca (Spain) at the Institute for Natural Resources and Agrobiology that belongs to the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). The project deals with the molecular characterization of redox signaling networks in plant cells and, particularly, on the molecular mechanisms by which reactive oxygen species in plastids activates signaling cascades that ultimately results in a nuclear response for environmental adaptation. We seek candidates to apply for the Juan de la Cierva program, financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (3-years contract).
 
Requirements
 
Candidates should have a PhD, obtained (not before 1st Sept 2008), in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or other relevant discipline. Previous experience on basic Molecular Biology and Protein Biochemistry is required. The Sustainable Production and Consumption Unit has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher to work in environmental economics. The research will focus on the analysis of environmental and economic aspects of consumption and production patterns and relevant policy implications. It will also cover the analysis of environmental policies and related regulatory instruments. The successful candidate’s main tasks will consist in the development and use of environmental economic models and in conducting, formulating and coordinating techno-economic studies, the management and monitoring of research tasks, analysis and summary of results and preparation of reports for policy makers. He/she should have an academic and professional background in environmental economics or in applied economics. He/she should have a good overview of the different environmental problems. Candidates should have a good understanding of the relationship between economy, technology, environment and consumption and production patterns as well as societal change and its policy implications. A good knowledge of EU Environmental and Sustainable Development Policies is an asset. Knowledge of quantitative methods and tools such as environmental economic models, environmentally extended input output analysis or environmental accounts is required. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to obtain a PhD (certified by the university) or having a minimum of 5 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a masters degree) in a field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities. PostDoc - The Economics of Soil Biodiversity and Ecosystem

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), offers a two year postdoctoral fellowship as part of the EU project EcoFINDERS (Ecological Function and Biodiversity Indicators in European Soils). The postdoc will contribute to a large interdisciplinary team but will focus on the economic analysis associated with the conservation of soil biodiversity and impacts on ecosystem services.  It is expected that the successful candidate will join BC3 in November 2012.
 
BC3 is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a PhD in natural resource economics, agricultural or environmental economics and strong skills in quantitative economic analysis. The successful applicant will work on developing integrated ecological-economic models to demonstrating the value of soil biodiversity and associated ecosystem services for human wellbeing especially in risky and rapidly changing agricultural environments. Given the role of soil biodiversity for buffering climate change impacts, BC3 is strengthening this area of applied economics research. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with the Danish Centre for Environment and Energy (DCE) at Aarhus University, Denmark.

Gardline Environmental Limited (GEL) is a member of the Gardline Marine Sciences Limited Group of Companies and is a successful Environmental contractor conducting major integrated offshore projects on a worldwide basis and inshore projects for major clients in the UK and overseas.
 
As a Field Environmental Scientist you will undertake environmental survey activities in a variety of locations across the world, upon a variety of different vessels. You will be involved with setting up and running marine environmental survey requirements within a specific contract, liaising closely with colleagues in technical, scientific and project management departments. This role also involves office work. On a vessel you will be responsible for operating equipment safely and correctly, to collect environmental samples from the water column and the seabed for onshore laboratory analysis without disturbing, damaging or contaminating samples in any way. There are strict protocols set that must be followed to ensure sample integrity is maintained, this includes their storage on board, despatch and recording onto log sheets. As and when required by the Party Chief, whilst offshore, you will be asked to undertake other duties such as equipment maintenance and marine mammal observations. In the office, you will be expected to process the data, working closely with the specialist Environmental reporting team to produce quality reports for our customers. You will also be involved with the processing of samples in our laboratory. Initially this role will be office based in Great Yarmouth, whilst you complete required training and familiarisation with Gardline protocols, so relocation to the area may be required. You will spend up to 120 days at sea during your first year. Alternative contracts may become available after this period in accordance with business needs.
