We have vacancies for two Area Environmental Scientists and one Project Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental team. The team provides environmental and planning permission advice to engineering and construction staff to ensure that current legislation and company environmental policy are met in the development and maintenance of assets. These roles offer the opportunity for experienced scientists with a suitable environmental degree/MSc to further their environmental skills within the water industry.
Responsibility areas for the Area Environmental Scientists include:
- Reviewing environmental constraints on capital schemes
- Advising on specialist environmental issues (the successful candidates will be expected to have knowledge in some of the following areas; archaeology, noise, odour, contaminated land, flood risk, landscape assessment).
- Undertaking consultation and liaison with external parties and stakeholders, particularly planning authorities
- Successfully gaining environmental and planning consents to meet project timescales
- Working closely with engineering and construction site staff to ensure that environmental issues are properly addressed at all stages of the project
Responsibility areas for the Project Environmental Scientist include:
- Discharging of planning conditions (major EIA scheme) and securing consents in preparation for project construction phase
- Preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans
- Ongoing planning authority and stakeholder liaison
- Construction site support (it is envisaged that this role will be predominantly site based for approximately 12 months)
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in an environmental science related subject
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a planning / environmental role
- Knowledge of EIA and planning legislation / system
- Excellent communication / negotiation skills with colleagues, technical specialists, external organisations and the public
- A high level of organisational skills and the ability to manage own projects, workload and deadlines
- Good IT skills
- An understanding of sewage and water treatment processes
- An understanding of construction practices (essential for the Project Environmental Scientist)
- GIS skills
