Geospatial Modeler (Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analytics). Position: 14490.
In this role you will be working in a fast paced environment with a multi-disciplinary team of catastrophe modelers, analytical professionals, remote sensing scientistis and geospatial modelrers developing exposure models for earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and other peril for different geographies across the globe. The candidate must be detail-oriented with a positive attitude and with excellent work ethic. Strong computer skills and a capacity to learn new emerging technologies is a must.
Key Accountabilities & Deliverables:
Design and implement required procedures (classification, segmentation, etc.) and develop data products related to Remote Sensing and GIS projects.Identify suitable baseline and historical imagery sources from both internal and external sources.Manage or analyze data from remote sensing platforms to obtain meaningful classification and segmentation results. PostDoc - Water sustainability and climate

Postdoctoral Researcher in Water Sustainability and Climate: Water, land use and climate change in an urbanizing agricultural region.
A two-year postdoctoral researcher position is available with the Water Sustainability and Climate (WSC) research group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as part of a five-year project funded by the National Science Foundation. The position will be co-supervised by Drs. Chris Kucharik and Steve Loheide. This position is focused on using an agroecosystem model (Agro-IBIS) coupled to a groundwater flow model (MODFLOW) to investigate the impacts of changing land use, land cover and climate on hydrology and other related ecosystem services of the Yahara Watershed in southern Wisconsin. Therefore, this position requires strong background in ecohydrology, with preference to those with previous experience in groundwater flow modeling and modeling the connections between groundwater and land surface processes. The scientific goals of this two-year postdoctoral position are: (1) complete development and calibration of the newly developed Agro-IBIS-MODFLOW (AIM) model for the Yahara Watershed, and (2) use this new modeling approach to examine the impacts of changing climate and land use/cover on flows of water, N, and P through the watershed using a series of integrated scenarios that portray several pathways of change out to the year 2070.

Since 1959 the GFD program has promoted an exchange of ideas among researchers from distinct fields that share a common interest in the nonlinear dynamics of fluid flows in oceanography, meteorology, geophysics, astrophysics, applied mathematics, engineering and physics.
The program is organized around a ten-week course of study and research with an overall philosophy of bringing together researchers from a variety of backgrounds to provide a discussion of concepts spanning different disciplines, and thereby creating an intense research experience. Fellows complete a mentored research project. The Program commences with two weeks of Principal Lectures. The 2014 theme is "*Climate Physics and Dynamics*".Lectures on "*Water, Radiation, and Convection in the Climate System*" will be given by Kerry Emanuel (MIT) and on "*Large Scale Dynamics in the Atmosphere and Ocean*" by Geoffrey Vallis (Exeter).

Coastal Carolina University is seeking a Director for our Environmental Quality Laboratory (EQL). This is a full-time annual appointment position with benefits and faculty status in the School of Coastal and Marine Systems Science, which offers masters and PhD degrees. The EQL is a nonprofit facility that engages in and supports education, research, and community service. The EQL director collaborates in the development and execution of monitoring and research projects. The EQL is certified by the state of SC for analysis of various water quality parameters. Ongoing projects include: (1) monitoring programs in riverine, ground and coastal waters using wet chemistries and continuous in-situ sensors, (2) microbial source tracking using qPCR assays and chemical tracers, such as caffeine and optical brighteners, and (3) performance assessments of ecosystem restoration efforts and stormwater best management practices. The School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for two tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin in the academic year 2014-2015. Through these hires, the School is seeking to broaden its areas of expertise and expand beyond its leadership role in weather research and advanced applications of radar measurements for atmospheric studies. While outstanding scholars will be considered in all areas of the atmospheric sciences and closely related disciplines, research expertise is particularly desired in the following areas: i) Cloud system research from microphysics to the role of clouds in weather and climate; ii) Satellite and radar remote sensing; iii) The intersection of weather and climate; iv) Development, evaluation and applications of coupled modeling systems.
The context for these hires is that the weather, water, climate, and radar engineering are the University of Oklahoma's highest priorities for strategic investment. The University has added more than $100 million in new facilities during the past several years and a new 35,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art Radar Innovations Laboratory is currently under construction. In addition, the University was recently selected as home to the Department of the Interior's South Central Regional Climate Science Center. A major program of interdisciplinary study has also been initiated in the social, human, behavioral, and economic aspects of weather and climate in collaboration with the University's Center for Applied Social Research. The National Weather Center -- one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world -- houses the University's academic and research programs in meteorology, state organizations, and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Norman-based weather research and operational programs. The School of Meteorology is an academic unit of the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences with 25 faculty and nearly 100 graduate students.

Applicants should have completed their PhD and demonstrated the ability to establish, lead and sustain a strong and vibrant research program in meteorology, atmospheric science or a closely related field. The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of California, Riverside, invites applications for a faculty position in High Resolution Records of Cenozoic Climatic and Environmental Change (broadly defined) at the Assistant Professor level, available from July 1, 2014. The successful candidate for this tenure track Assistant Professorship will lead an independent, strong, and innovative program exploring records of past climate change and their cause-and-effect relationships with the co-evolution of life and the environment. The focus will be on understanding the drivers and manifestations of global climate change from the perspective of better understanding Earth’s climatic history through the Cenozoic Era and its value as a window to the processes and impacts of ongoing and future climate trends. 

Requirements

The candidate should prioritize the documentation and interpretation of novel past climatic records, and the desired expertise includes, but is not limited to, a geochemist/climatologist who studies high-resolution records of Cenozoic climate change spanning time scales from decades up to tens of millions of years, including archives on land, lakes and/or in the ocean. The successful candidate will become fully engaged in the teaching mission of the department and the college. This will include undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of specialty. Contract - Tenure Track Assistant Professor (GIS/Remote Sensing/Modeling Applications in Environmental Hydrology)

Duties: The successful applicant is expected to develop an active program of research and teaching in areas of specialization and to work with water resources and other departmental faculty to strengthen existing graduate programs in hydrology and undergraduate training in geology, geography, hydrology, and urban planning. Specific duties will include: teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing water resources and environmental science curriculum, maintaining an active research program, participating in University service, and advising undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements

ABD or a Ph.D. in Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a closely related discipline. A Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education is required for retention after the initial two year appointment. Candidates should provide record of or potential for scholarly activity involving students whenever possible, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.
Desired requirements: We are seeking candidates with broad training in Environmental Hydrology using GIS/Remote Sensing/Models who will be able to expand our course offerings in GIS/Remote Sensing and Hydrological/Environmental applications. Expertise in one or more of the following areas will be highly desired and befitting our strategic growth over the next five years: geospatial analyses, remote sensing, groundwater and/or surface water modeling, soil water/vegetative transfer modeling. Proficiency in oral and written communication is required. The ability to collect and process field data for ground-truthing remote sensing is desirable. Climatologists with research focus on hydrological cycles, water resources, etc are considered.

PostDoc - Hydrologic and biogeochemical modeling in the tropical Amazon

Multi-scale Hydrology and Processes group (MHP), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Pennsylvania State University (PSU) welcomes applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in multi-scale hydrologic and biogeochemical modeling in the tropical Amazon. The selected candidate will focus on implementing a multi-scale modeling framework based on an existing coupling of the Process-based Adaptive Watershed Simulator (PAWS) and the Community Land Model (CLM). The research associates will use the modeling system to study the influence of climate change on the interactions between hydrologic and carbon cycles.

Requirements

We look for highly-motivated candidates with strong backgrounds in numerical modeling, hydrology and/or biogeochemistry, and analysis of complex coupled terrestrial ecosystem processes.
Familiarity with physically-based hydrologic models and/or high performance computing is preferred. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project, the scholars will have plenty of opportunities to interact with personnel from many other institutions and work across disciplines.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work on a research project focused on the assembly and wiring of brain circuits. Our laboratory is interested in the mechanisms that regulate the connectivity between neurons. We focus on the process of neuronal integration during adult neurogenesis in the olfactory bulb and hippocampus. PostDoc - Radio astronomy

We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellow working in radio astronomy at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, to begin in September of 2013. We are currently operating the first station of the Long Wavelength Array (LWA1) as a University Radio Observatory (see lwa.unm.edu). We also anticipate construction of additional LWA stations. The successful candidate would make use of LWA1 for scientific research in astronomy or ionospheric physics, and aid in LWA1 operations and in construction of additional stations.
 
Requirements
 
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have some experience with RF electronics, circuit board design, and radio interferometry techniques. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. at the time of hire.

We are affiliated with the Departments of Genetics and Computer Science as well as the BioMaPS Institute for Quantitative Biology at Rutgers. Our group is broadly interested in developing computational methods for studying the function and evolution of small RNAs (e.g. microRNAs, piRNAs and CRISPRs). The mathematical techniques we use draw from machine learning, statistics and combinatorial algorithms. We also have close collaborations with several experimental labs. We are located at the main Rutgers campus in Piscataway, NJ, about 30 miles from New York City.
