Contract - Temperature-responsive polymers, up-conversion and NIR-responsible nanoparticles

Description

Junior experienced researcher. Within the framework of an ERC-Consolidator grant, the research project deals with the development of temperature-responsive polymers, up-conversion and NIR-responsible nanoparticles to be used as drug delivery vectors using CFD simulations and microfluidic platforms for the synthesis of those hybrid carriers. The biological action of the resulting materials will be tested in vitro and in vivo.
The project will take place in the Aragon Nanoscience Institute (www.unizar.es/ina). The Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Zaragoza, created in 2003. Our activity is focused on R+D in nanoscience and nanotechnology, based on the processing and fabrication of structures at the nanoscale and the study of their applications, in collaboration with companies and technological institutes from different areas.

Contract - Vacuum engineer

Description

CELLS is a consortium whose aim is the management of the economical, technical and administrative collaboration of the entities being part of the consortium, Ministerio de Ciéncia y Tecnología and Generalitat de Catalunya. The object of the collaboration is the construction, equipping and exploitation of the Synchrotron Radiation Light Source Laboratory sited in the area of Vallès Occidental.
The ALBA main storage ring has an energy of 3 Gev and delivers synchrotron light. The diameter of the main storage ring is about 85 m and 7 beam lines are in operation.
Function:
He/she will take responsibility as a vacuum engineer. He/she will assume the maintenance and exploitation of the vacuum existing systems and facilities. He/she will provide guidance and advise on those aspects related with the vacuum and ultra high vacuum technologies. The main tasks expected from the successful applicant are:

 *Complex of accelerators and beam lines ultra-high vacuum systems follow-up and exploitation.
  * Participation on those CELLS projects involving vacuum technology.
  * Participation in the technical vacuum design studies
  * Production of technical specifications and costs estimations. 
  * Production of drawing associated to above mentioned documents.
  * Production follow-up, installation and commissioning of vacuum systems and components.
  * Writing and/or review installation, maintenance, coordination procedures.
  * Contribute to the organization and scheduling of the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of vacuum facilities.
  * Coordination with other technical teams to meet the expected goals of the working team, this includes collection of information, reporting and coordination.
  * Follow-up and documentation on activities during the installation, commissioning, maintenance, etc.

Se buscan candidatos interesados en solicitar un contrato Postdoctoral en el Laboratorio de Adipobiología del IMIBIC/Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía/Universidad de Córdoba en la presente convocatoria de “Contratos para la formación postdoctoral” del MINECO (BOE Nº 313, 31 de diciembre, 2013).
La investigación a realizar estará enfocada en estudiar mecanismos reguladores de la homeostasis lipídica y proteica en adipocitos y su relevancia funcional en el desarrollo de resistencia a insulina asociada a obesidad.
Los candidatos deben tener publicaciones de primer autor y una fuerte motivación en investigación traslacional.
La investigación se llevará a cabo en el Instituto Maimónides de Investigación Biomédica de Córdoba (IMIBIC), un instituto de investigación en salud perteneciente al Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía y a la Universidad de Córdoba, que ha sido acreditado por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Coastal Carolina University is seeking a Director for our Environmental Quality Laboratory (EQL). This is a full-time annual appointment position with benefits and faculty status in the School of Coastal and Marine Systems Science, which offers masters and PhD degrees. The EQL is a nonprofit facility that engages in and supports education, research, and community service. The EQL director collaborates in the development and execution of monitoring and research projects. The EQL is certified by the state of SC for analysis of various water quality parameters. Ongoing projects include: (1) monitoring programs in riverine, ground and coastal waters using wet chemistries and continuous in-situ sensors, (2) microbial source tracking using qPCR assays and chemical tracers, such as caffeine and optical brighteners, and (3) performance assessments of ecosystem restoration efforts and stormwater best management practices.   • Síntesis de diversos materiales nanoporosos (MOFs, sílices, silicatos laminares, etc.).
  • Encapsulación de diferentes aditivos en materiales nanoporosos.
  • Posible escalado de los dos procesos anteriores.
  • Caracterización de los materiales obtenidos por SEM, TEM, TGA, XRD, BET, FTIR, Vis-UV y adsorción de N2.
  • Caracterización de la liberación/desorción, etc. de los aditivos usando herramientas tales como cromatografías HPLC y GS-MS y absorción Vis-UV.

Requisitos

Ingenier@ Químico, Licenciad@ en Químicas o similar. Se valorará también un máster directamente relacionado con Ingeniería Química, Química o Materiales y la predisposición a realizar el doctorado a través de la solicitud de una beca predoctoral tipo DGA o FPU. Se considerarán también candidaturas de estudiantes que estén a falta de presentar en breve el proyecto/trabajo final correspondiente.

PostDoc - Chemical reactions by synchrotron X-ray experiments

Description

Post doctoral position for crystallographer, solid state physicist, solid state chemist, material scientist for 2 years, construction of and probing of chemical reactions in in-situ reaction cells by synchrotron X-ray experiments.
The project is part of the MATsynCELL project within the  “Röntgen-Ångström  Cluster”  framework program  (http://www.rontgen-angstrom.eu/) held jointly by Stockholm University (SU) and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences  (SLU) in Sweden,  and  Christian-Albrechts-Universität and Ruhr-Universität in Germany to build up a consortium  MATsynCELL.
The project is to construct, test and apply a new in situ reaction cell for diffraction and spectroscopic experiments using synchrotron radiation which works at variable temperature, pressure and atmospheric environments. The German part of the project within the MATsynCELL is the construction and testing of the reaction cell. The Swedish collaborators will extensively study the MOF formation and interaction with guest molecules. MOFs are a class of interesting porous materials because of their importance in catalysis,  energy storage, gas separation and storage. The main tasks are developing heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic reactions,  and understanding the catalytic performance.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have experience in experimentation with synchrotron radiation under non-ambient conditions. He or she will lead the development of the in situ cell including remote control at RU Bochum. Implementation will be realized at synchrotron laboratories in collaboration with beam line scientists of synchrotron light sources and the Swedish groups performing the in situ experiments. The candidate should have a strong collaborative and communication skills and be self-motivated.

PhD - Post-mortem analysis for rechargeable Li-ion batteries

CIC Energigune is seeking a candidate to start a PhD to engage in the field of post-mortem analysis for rechargeable Li-ion batteries. Title of the research project: “Understanding the failure mechanisms of Li-ion cells by Post-mortem analysis”.
Goal: The goal of this project is to investigate the failure of Li-ion cells by post-mortem analysis using chemical, physical and electrochemical methods. Special attention will be paid to the development of specific protocols for the characterization different cell components (positive and negative electrode, separators, electrolyte...).

PhD - Development and optimisation of separation processes for heavy rare earths

Description

The Industrial Materials Recycling group, included into the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, carries out research in material recycling and development of new recycling methods. Current projects concern recovery of metals from spent batteries, CIGS solar cells, low energy lamps, flat screens, paint residues and waste combustion ash. The group consists of 5 senior scientists, 4 postdocs and 10 PhD students and works together with the Nuclear Chemistry group which means a good availability of advanced analytical methods.
Project: "Development and optimisation of separation processes for heavy rare earths". Objectives: Development of extractants for solvent extraction separation of heavy rare earths from magnet leachates & Development and assessment of new environmentally friendly extractants for REE separation.
Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.
To carry out the research project assigned to him/her To take the compulsory courses of PhD students at Chalmers and additional doctoral courses corresponding to 30 points for a licentiate degree and 60 points for a PhD degree.To take part in the activities of the EREAN network. To carry out the secondment periods indicated in the project descriptions.To take part in the teaching and departmental duties as our other doctoral students.

Requirements

To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. The applicant for ESR8 should be strong in organic chemistry, synthesis and analytical methods.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
English language: It is a requirement that network fellows will show that their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English is sufficiently high for them to derive the full benefit from the networktraining.
Conditions of international mobility of researchers: Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up the appointment. At the time of selection by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

PostDoc - New nanoscopic carbon-based composite materials for biofuel cells

The candidate will work on a project focused on the development of new nanoscopic carbon-based composite materials for biofuel cells and their production scalability. He/she will participate in a number of workshops organized by the project partners as well as spend a few months on secondment at partner institutions. This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months.

Requirements

-Qualification required: PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or Physics.
-High level of spoken and written English and good communication skills.
-Good knowledge in the synthesis, surface modification and characterization of graphene, graphene hybrid materials or carbon nanotubes. Knowledge in electrochemical testing is also valuable.
-Marie-Curie fellowship Mobility requirement: Candidates can be of any nationality. At the time of recruitment, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work or studies) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3years immediately prior to their recruitment.
