The objectives of MULTI-POS network are: to bridge the gap between the lower technology layer and the upper application layer involved in wireless mobile positioning and navigation, to create novel methods, technologies and business models for the future location-enabled wireless devices, to improve the career perspectives of selected researchers in both public and private sectors, and to create a community of researchers capable of exploiting synergies and complementarities between various fields involved in location and navigation, such as engineering, social sciences, and business. This job opportunity is focused on improving navigation technology through advances in signal design and processing techniques. Objectives:

Wireless Communications - 2 positions

Description

 

The UWICORE laboratory is leading the project OPPORTUNITIES, a nationally funded research project working in the area of multi-hop cellular networks with mobile relays (MCN-MR). MCN-MR integrate cellular and ad-hoc technologies through the use of mobile relaying techniques in order to improve the system capacity and user-perceived QoS by substituting long-distance cellular links with various multi-hop transmissions with improved link budgets. To this aim, MCN-MR technologies would use the mobile terminals communications and computing capabilities in an opportunistic and collaborative operational framework. In this context, the project OPPORTUNITIES is investigating contextual, adaptive and opportunistic communications and networking techniques to improve the reliability and energy/resources efficiency of mobile relaying schemes in MCN systems. In addition to analytical and simulation research work, the project has a strong experimental focus. The Ubiquitous Wireless Communications Research (UWICORE, www.uwicore.umh.es) laboratory is part of the Communications Engineering Department of the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche in Spain. UWICORE is a very active Spanish research laboratory with close links with national and international industry. Its research activities are focused in: multi-hop cellular networks, vehicular communications and networks, heterogeneous wireless systems, and wireless system design and optimization. The laboratory has also strong expertise in the implementation of research hardware and software testbeds. UWICORE is looking to hire two Research Engineers to work on the OPPORTUNITIES project. Ideally, the candidates would be interested in conducting a PhD, although this requirement is not mandatory. Sentinel 5 - Payload analysis

SRON is considered to be a global leader in the area of earth and space science, due to the space instruments it develops for the satellites of ESA, NASA and JAXA. The EPS (Earth and Planetary Science) division has a vacancy for a Scientist (PostDoc) (number SRON 12-18). ESA is developing five new missions called Sentinels specifically for the operational needs of the GMES program. As part of this program the Sentinel-5 mission is dedicated to monitoring the composition of the atmosphere. Its payload measures the sunlight reflected by the Earth atmosphere in several spectral ranges including the shortwave infrared (SWIR) which is dedicated to determine the atmospheric abundance of Carbon monoxide (CO) and methane (CH4) with high accuracy. Both trace gases are important atmospheric constituents and measurements of their global distribution are needed to improve our understanding of atmospheric chemistry and global warming. For an optimal performance of the SWIR measurements within the financial budget of the mission a dedicated analysis of different instrument concepts is required, which will be performed in close collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). For this purpose we are looking for a scientist with strong numerical experience who is capable to work in an international team.

It also requires a complete set of beam diagnostics methods to monitor all important accelerators and beam parameters with high precision. Within the oPAC project all these aspects will be closely linked with the aim to optimise the performance of present and future accelerators.

Currently, the CTTC is interested in filling the following post-doctoral position in access technologies:

 

Access Technologies (Ref. 5/2012-1, 1 position): The post-doctoral researcher is expected to pursue fundamental research on several aspects of wireless Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) communications related with the EC-funded project ICT-EMPhAtiC that CTTC leads; should have knowledge on the specification of current cellular-type mobile communication systems (LTE and/or WiMAX), plus strong publication record in scheduling and RRM techniques for cellular systems, relay networks (single/multiple relays, possibly multi-user), and two-way relaying. Expertise and/or strong publication record in optimization tools such as Lagrangian-based, interior point methods, subgradient and dual decomposition methods is highly appreciated. Good writing skills in English and ability to integrate in a multi-disciplinary team are of interest, as well.

EUMETSAT delivers to users worldwide and is a major contributor to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) programmes. Continuous, consistent, and high quality long-term observations of the atmospheric composition are fundamental for addressing the challenges of climate research, whereby space-based remote sensing observations have a special importance since they are unique in giving a global perspective. Among the space-based remote sensors, IASI has a special status since it offers a unique combination of long-term data availability, high quality, global coverage, and measurement frequency. IASI operationally measures water vapour and ozone profiles as well as total column amounts of water vapour, ozone, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Specific additional development and validation work is necessary in the area of atmospheric composition, especially on the green-house gases, to allow full use and application of the IASI L2 products to the climate research.
