Description
MULTI-POS is a Marie Curie ITN funded by the European Commission that will address challenging research topics in the field of wireless localization and will offer a comprehensive multi-dimensional and cross-boundary training to 15 selected researchers from all over the world. The main objectives of MULTI-POS network are: to bridge the gap between the lower technology layer and the upper application layer involved in wireless mobile positioning and navigation, to create novel methods, technologies and business models for the future location-enabled wireless devices, to improve the career perspectives of selected researchers in both public and private sectors, and to create a community of researchers capable of exploiting synergies and complementarities between various fields involved in location and navigation, such as engineering, social sciences, and business. The research project will review the possibilities of phase based navigation supported by assistance services as well as of non-GNSS techniques, but instead of being focused in the development of any particular technique; it will focus on the trade-off among the potential technologies and mostly on LBS services. The ESR will develop the optimum data fusion approaches with the support of future assistance services designed for high performances in urban scenarios. Objectives:
1) Characterization of the effects of the harsh urban environment in the GNSS measurements, under the future multi-constellation scenarios;
2) Analysis of the complementary strengths and drawbacks provided by alternative positioning technologies;
3) Analysis of the complementary potential to enhance performances provided by current and planned high end assistance GNSS services;
4) To derive the combination of technologies and services required to provide high availability of high accurate navigation with integrity, for application in vehicles and pedestrians in urban environments
Requirements
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic junior scientists, with a preferential background in positioning technologies and software engineering as well as in communications engineering or computer engineering. Previous experience in fields directly related to the specific position is a plus. Excellent research skills and analytical abilities are required, fluency in English (both spoken and written), proactive communication skills and problem solving as part of a team, strong record keeping, great work ethic and initiatives are essential characteristics.
