Description
The consortium for Construction, Equipment and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Laboratory (CELLS) is jointly funded by the Spanish State Government through its Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Autonomous Government) through its Departament d’Universitats, Recerca i Societat de la Informació (Department of Universities, Research and Information Society).
The accelerator was commissioned in 2011 and the Beamlines started official operations in May 2012. The control systems for the beamlines use common tools and reuse most hardware and software.
The Systems Section consists of 8 staff members. The section is part of the Computing and Controls division with its 50 staff member.
Function: Being part of the Systems Section will be co responsible for the administration (projecting, installation, maintenance and support) of the ALBA IT Systems computing equipment and networks and the related services like: application hosting, authentication, backup, desktop virtualization, network & communications, personal and industrial computing, printing, remote access, server hosting, security, storage, help desk & HPC giving support to the whole research facility and its users including the beamlines and the machine.
Responsibilities:
- Design, set-up an operation of new servers and services
- Windows and Linux system administration
- Supervision of central server systems
- System monitoring and tuning
- User support
- Maintenance and improvement of services
The exact field of duty depends on the needs and the experience of the candidate.
Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science.
- 4+ years of professional experience as System Administrator.
- Experience in a research center is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience working with IT system services (ITIL) and project management
(PRINCE2) will be considered an asset.
- A good level of English both written and spoken is required.
Valued abilities and experience (all valued but not all required)
Professional:
- Advanced Linux & Windows Server administration.
- Distributed configuration management ( Puppet, Chef, CFEngine,... ).
- Cluster & HPC w/ scientific-software (i.e. hadoop/CDH, Rocks Cluster, Apache Mesos,
MPI, …).
- OpenLDAP & Samba “windows” domains (samba3, samba4wins, samba4,…), inter- domain trust-relationships.
- Scripting (perl, python, windows logon scripts, PowerShell,…).
- Networking (RADIUS, DNS, DHCP, VLANs,…) - “Extreme Networks” switches specially valued.
- Monitoring (nagios, icinga,…).
- Cups print + Samba print sharing.
- Backup and archiving – “Atempo” specially valued.
- DB Admin (mysql, SQL Server,…).
- Desktop administration:
- Windows, Linux and Mac OS clients administration.
- Citrix XenApp application and desktop publishing.
- Virtualization (VDI) for windows (XenDesktop/Vmware View) & linux client OSs.
- Helpdesk.
- Security.
- Storage systems (NAS, CIFS/NFS3-4, SAN, Distributed filesystems,…) – “BlueArc/HDS
HNAS” specially valued.
- Virtualization (XenServer, Vmware, Xen, KVM, Open Nebula).
Personal skills:
- High level of initiative concerning computing subjects.
- Good knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Friendly appearance and good communication skills.
- High level of linguistic proficiency in spoken and written English. Official languages
level also valued.
- Willingness to learn new things.
