We are seeking a candidate to apply for 3-year “Sara Borrell” Postdoctoral Fellowships funded by the Spanish Government. Research lines include cancer (DNA damage, resistance to chemotherapeutic agents, Chromatin remodeling), and genetics and genomics with splicing-related genes.

 

Requirements

 

- Applicants will have obtained a PhD after January 1st of 2009.
- EU citizens or resident in Spain at the time of the application.
- A good publication record, preferably with one first author paper in a high impact journal.
- Experience in C. elegans, and interest in cancer and/or splicing are highly desirable.

 

PhD - Air Quality Measurements from Space & the Ground

Description

Nitrogen dioxide in the lower atmosphere is an indicator for air pollution. It can be measured from space, e.g. by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on board EOS-AURA. These satellite measurements can be used to study worldwide changes in air quality. The uncertainties in nitrogen dioxide concentrations derived from satellite measurements are still very large. The PhD student will focus on quantification, understanding and decreasing these uncertainties, using remotely sensed measurements from the ground and in-situ measurement from weather balloons. Atmospheric models will be used to couple these measurements and study their mutual differences. The PhD student will mostly work with data collected during several measurement campaigns in Europe, the USA, and China between 2007 and 2013. More data will be collected during one or two intensive measurement campaigns in the course of the project. he PhD student will be stationed at KNMI in De Bilt but will fully participate in the PhD programme of TUD.

Requirements

As a potential candidate, you should have a Master degree in (astro-) physics, meteorology, chemistry, remote sensing or a closely related discipline. You should have good communication skills, be fluent in English, and preferably also in Dutch. You should have strong analytical qualities, a high level of motivation and good learning skills. In particular, we will assess your potential for quickly developing scientific writing skills and self-directing skills. You preferably have experience with remote sensing and radiative transfer. Good programming skills in FORTRAN, C, C++ or Python, are an advantage.

PostDoc - Meiosis en ratones

Se buscan doctores, preferentemente por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) o la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), que hayan obtenido el doctorado entre el 01/01/2010 y el 15/10/2013, con currículo competitivo que puedan optar a  una beca postdoctoral de la Alianza de 4 Universidades para realizar un proyecto de investigación sobre la meiosis en ratones en el grupo de investigación de meiosis en mamíferos, liderado por el Dr. Ignasi Roig de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. El objetivo principal del grupo de investigación es estudiar mediante aproximaciones genéticas los mecanismos que regulan la progresión de la profase meiótica en ratones  e identificar las proteínas involucradas en dichos procesos. Estudios recientes de nuestro grupo sugieren que la proteína kinasa CHK2 participa en la regulación de la recombinación meiótica en mamíferos. El candidato tendrá que usar técnicas de biología molecular, genética, histología y citología para describir la función de dicha proteína en la meiosis de ratones.

 

Requisitos

 

- Haber obtenido el doctorado entre el 01/01/2010 y el 15/10/2013, preferiblemente por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) o la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M).

- Tener currículum competitivo (publicaciones como primer autor en revistas indexadas en el primer cuartil del JCI).

- Experiència en biología celular y/o molecular

- Dominar inglés a nivel profesional.

- Tener experiencia en centros de investigación internacional.

PostDoc - Instrument scientist

ALBA is the Spanish Synchrotron Radiation Facility operated by the Consortium CELLS, which is equally funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Economía y Competividad) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament d'Economia i Coneixement). ALBA consists of a complex of electron accelerators whose objective are to generate extremely brilliant synchrotron light beams with photon energies spanning from the infrared to the hard X-ray region. The instrument scientist will join the CLAESS beamline team (http://www.cells.es/Beamlines/CLAESS). The functions will be to help in the activities of the beamline. Specific tasks are:

 

 - Participate in the public and industrial user support.
 - To carry out research with hard X-ray absorption techniques.
 - Beamline upgrade, commissioning and maintenance.

 

Requirements

 

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in chemistry, material science, physics, engineering or closely related discipline. He/she should also have a sound experience in the use of synchrotron radiation X-ray absorption techniques.In addition to that, he/she should have adaptability to international and multidisciplinary environment, sense of responsibility and ability to work as a team member as well as independently. Working language is English.

PostDoc - Microwave Instrument for the Rosetta Orbiter

Description

The successful applicant will carry out research with Dr N. Biver, D. Bockelée-Movan, J. Crovisier and colleagues on the analysis of data obtained by the Microwave Instrument for the Rosetta Orbiter (MIRO). The Rosetta mission will arrive at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014. The goals of the MIRO instrument are to measure the sub-surface temperature of the nucleus, the production rates, and the relative abundances, velocity and excitation temperature of several gas phase species (CO, NH3, CH3OH, and three isotopologues of H2O), along with their spatial and temporal variability. The successful applicant will focus her/his research on the  development of inverse methods for the analysis of the molecular lines.

Requirements

The position requires a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics, and candidates should have experience on observations and radiative transfer modelling of molecular lines in cometary/planetary or circumstellar atmospheres.

PhD - Organic synthesis

ECHONET is focused on the training of young researchers in Organic Synthesis. The main research objective is to apply and develop new methodologies that can be used to prepare novel compounds for applications (e.g. agrochemicals). ECHONET integrates ten academic and industrial groups from six European countries. The 3-year contract will start immediately with the aim of obtaining the PhD. The ESR will be trained in essential techniques in organic synthesis and will gain an understanding of the synthetic methodology required for total synthesis, which has an extensive impact in both the pharmaceutical industry and academic environments. Additional postgraduate courses, together with secondments, will provide a clear perspective of current protocols and possible synergies that can be exploited by the trainee for her/his future career.

 

Requirements

 

We are seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated scientists with good theoretical and practical learning skills, able to think independently and effective at team work. Candidates with an already completed Master Degree will be preferred. Previous research experience will also be positively appreciated. At the time of recruitment, they must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers, have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree, and must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.
