Description
Ecometrica Ltd is recruiting an analyst with expertise in ecosystem services and/or land use and/or forestry and/or agriculture to work as part of a small multi-disciplinary team consisting of land use, GIS and remote sensing experts based in Edinburgh, UK. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, pro-active candidate with a good understanding of the natural environment and biological processes. You will form part of a dynamic team engaged in land use-related projects. You will also be actively involved in the development of client applications on Ecometrica’s online mapping platform, Our Ecosystem. A basic understanding of GIS is therefore a strong advantage. We are seeking a solution-driven analyst who can translate client needs into a realistic project plan. You should be able to work accurately under pressure, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Good communication and client-facing skills are important and you will be expected to be able to communicate to a non-technical audience.
Requirements
• Masters degree or similar postgraduate qualification or at least 2 years’ relevant work experience
• Solid understanding of land use/ecology/forestry/agriculture/vegetation science
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Proficient computer and software user
• Fluent English language speaker and high quality of written English
• Ability for critical thinking and coherent argument
• Eligible to work in the UK

Skills and knowledge that are seen as an additional advantage:
• Knowledge of relevant forest, agriculture and extractive industry policies (REDD+, EU Biofuels Directive, Sustainability Standards, Supply Chain initiatives, Water Footprinting)
• Understanding of economics of forestry and agriculture and familiarity with common data sources such as FAOSTAT, USDA and European data sets
• Knowledge of GIS
• Proficiency in any GIS software package
• Knowledge of statistics
• A second language, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese or French
