PostDoc - European Technology Law

Description

The department is looking for outstanding postdoc candidates for several research projects associated with research being carried out by the Security, Technology and e-Privacy Research Group (SteP) organised within the Department of European and Economic Law and led by Prof. Joseph Cannataci and Prof. Jeanne Mifsud Bonnici.
The SteP Research Group coordinates and/or leads research work on audio-surveillance and privacy; biometrics and privacy; electronic exchange of forensic evidence; internet governance and parallel universes; online intellectual property issues and online privacy.
The tasks of the postdoc involve:
- conduct research into the legal implications of one or more of the above themes.
- leading to academic publications.
- participate in coordinating tasks in the management of the project.
- participate in co-supervision of PhD students.
- (limited) teaching at graduate and undergraduate level.

Requirements

- Have a PhD preferably in law, with a specialization in the field of information technology law or human rights law or European technology law or criminal law. PhD in other disciplines may also be considered.
- Are interested in on-going developments in surveillance and information and communication technologies and potential legal implications of these developments.
- Are capable of conducting independent study and to take initiatives.
- Are persevering and capable of working within strict deadlines.
- Have good oral communication skills, with the ability to present coherent and analytical accounts of the research.
- Have a product/result oriented attitude and interest in disseminating the research to academic and non-academic audiences.
- Have outstanding writing skills and a perfect command of the English language, both spoken and written.
- Have experience with teaching and/or supervision, this is considered an asset.
- Are willing and able to teach a small number of courses.

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience between € 3,259 gross per month up to a maximum of €4,462 (scale 11) gross per month for a full-time (1 fte) position (Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities 2011-2013, available in English on www.vsnu.nl). The position is defined according to the University Job Ranking (UFO) job profile Researcher 3. The position is temporary, with a maximum of three years. The initial appointment is for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension with one year after a positive Results and Development Interview. A part-time appointment at 0.8 fte for four years is possible.
Starting date: 1 January 2014.
Interviews for the positions will take place in week 45 of 2013 (week starting 4 November).
