Exascale computing

Barcelona Supercomputing Center, BSC
Barcelona, Spain

Description

Under the Severo Ochoa programme, the BSC will carry out multidisciplinary research to address the complex challenges in the path towards Exascale computing, co-developing energy efficient and high performance hardware and software platforms with applications in personalised medicine, modelling of human organs, and global models for climate change and air quality prediction. Within this context the Junior researcher will support scientific development of the NMMB/BSC-CTM multiscale model, with the aim to improve the understanding of the physico-chemical interaction processes that directly impacts on weather, air quality and climate through numerical modelling techniques. Main responsibilities:

- Support to the development of a multiscale atmospheric modelling system
- Evaluate and implement physico-chemical parameterizations and processes from local to global scales
- Research on meteorology-chemistry interactions
- Preparation of project deliverables

Requirements

- Having a PhD Degree in atmospheric sciences, physics, engineering or related discipline
- Previous experience in a scientific area related to the research position will be apreciated
- Previous experience in model development and application in parallel computing environments will be appreciated.
- Capacity to interact and build strong relations with a diverse members/stakeholder/staff base.
- Willing to travel
- Knowledge of application and development of atmospheric models
- Computing skills in high level computer languages (especially FORTRAN 77/90 and C) and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages
- Fluency in English essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
