PhD - Tomographic and Multibaseline Interferometric Techniques in SAR Remote Sensing

The Institute of Environmental Engineering
Zurich, Switzerland

Description:

The research focuses on investigating generic methods and algorithms in the context of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomography and multi-baseline interferometry with the aim to better support the extraction of geo- and biophysical parameters from SAR remote sensing data through a joint exploitation of the spatial, temporal, and polarimetric diversity of multiple SAR observations. The observables are provided by either airborne or spaceborne SAR systems and for experimental validation several test sites with ground measurements are available. This exciting field of research is relevant with respect to new upcoming satellite radar missions and mission proposals as well as with respect to an improved exploitation of existing SAR data archives.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate holding a Master’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer science, geophysics, physics, or a related field with experience in digital signal and/or image processing. A background in SAR data processing or another field of array signal processing is an asset. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and programming experience in Matlab, IDL, C/C++, or equivalent. For a good working communication, oral and written fluency in English is required, and it is essential that the candidate is willing to work in a multidisciplinary and international research team.

For further information about the position, please contact Dr. Othmar Frey by e-mail: frey@ifu.baug.ethz.ch or, Prof. Irena Hajnsek: hajnsek@ifu.baug.ethz.ch (no applications) and visit our website http://www.ifu.ethz.ch/EO/people/index_EN.
