Description:

A bioinformatician fellowship position in available within the Department of Systems Biology, in the laboratory of Professor Luis Serrano, at CRG Barcelona. The candidate will be involved in the development of scientific applications using many technologies and platforms. Mainly the candidate will be involved in assisting other scientists in conducting their research by developing customized data mining tools and performing high-level analysis of various data types including but not limited to next generation sequencing (NGS), three-dimensional structural protein data, and microarrays. In addition, the candidate will engage in the expansion of a protein engineering algorithm (Foldx).
Requirements:

• We are looking for a postdoc with a background in NGS data analysis and highly experienced in software development is also desirable.
• Experienced with Unix-Linux and knowledge of shell scripting (C, Bourne, Korn) required.
• Familiar with software development cycle.
• Proficiency in C++ and R programming languages. Others are also welcome.
• Experience in NGS data analysis and proficiency in handling massive genomic sequence data is a must.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or postgreSQL is a plus.
• Good time management.
• Capable of working independently and in a team.
• Good communication skills and fluent in English.

Conditions:

• Deadline: August 31st, 2012.
• Starting date: The position opens between September/October 2012.
• A position of 1 year, renewable contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress.
• A competitive salary will be provided, which will be well matched relative to the cost of living in Barcelona, and adjusted according to experience.
