PhD - Biomedicine (Cardiovascular Research)

Cardiovascular Research Center, CSIC
Barcelona, Spain
Deadline date: December 16th 2013

Description

The group of Dr. Llorente is focused on the study of molecular mechanisms leading to intracellular lipid accumulation in the vascular wall and myocardium, and the consequences for the cardiovascular system functionality. The group has a deep interest in the regulation of expression and activity of several lipoprotein receptors, but especially LRP1, by cardiovascular risk factors such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and hypoxia. Specific research areas are the following:
*LRP1-intracellular signal pathways related with alterations on calcium handling under pathophysiological situations such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension or hypoxia.
*Interplay between SREBPs-LRP1 and inflammation.
*Intracellular lipid accumulation in cardiovascular cells and elastin synthesis/physical characteristics.
*Interplay between LRP1 and breast cancer
*Impact of breast cancer in cardiac metabolism
The research group scope is highly translational and aims to translate the scientific findings to new therapeutic targets in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology.
