Centro Nacional de Investigadores Cardiovasculares
Madrid, Spain
Description
Centro Nacional de Investigadores Cardiovasculares (CNIC: the Spanish Nacional Cardiovascular Research Center) is a public foundation established by the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs through the Carlos III Institute of Health. The Center´s innovative financing structure includes a significant contribution from the private sector.
The CNIC is dedicated to excellence in cardiovascular research and to translating new knowledge into real improvements in clinical practice. The Center is located in a recently constructed building in the center of Madrid. The building has a total floor space of 28.000 m2 and is equipped with the latest scientific equipment and research-support infrastructure.
A position is open at the image analysis group based at the Cellomics Unit (CNIC). The image analysis group focuses on the development and validation of novel analysis methods for images ranging from molecular/cellular to tissue/organ resolution for a broad range of biological imaging applications. Modelling and simulations of processes within cells and organs for understanding biological processes is a particular area of applications that needs to be expanded within this group. Specific topics include 2D and 3D image analysis and segmentation, machine learning, 3D/4D modelling, reconstruction and tracking, and the design of decision support systems for High Content Screening (HCS). Key to the success of the unit is close cooperation with biological partners.
Main tasks:
• Development of new algorithms for supervised/unsupervised image analysis, with an eye on applications such as advanced 2D/3D/4D modelling and tracking, and High Content Screening
• Development of data analysis, mining and visualization tools, for complex biological problems, making it possible to draw biological/clinical conclusions from segmented images.
Requirements
The candidates shall fulfil the following conditions:
• An Msc or PhD degree in a relevant subject (computer science, engineering, image processing, computational biology, bioinformatics…)
• Strong motivation for research & development work.
• Background on the relevant technical areas.
• Good programming skills in Matlab, Java, C/C++, Python, R.
• Fluency in English.
Desired candidate qualifications are:
• Knowledge of image segmentation software such as Acapella, Definiens, ImageJ, Volocity, Amira, Metamorph, Imaris, OPT…
• Publication record on the relevant technical areas.
• Good skills in technical writing and presenting in english.
