BIOCAPS (Biomedical Capacities Support Program) is a research initiative funded by the EU Seventh Framework Program (REGPOT 2012-2013-1) to support the Institute of Biomedical Research of Vigo (IBIV), a newly established research institution of Servicio Galego de Saúde (Sergas) and the University of Vigo (SPAIN). Research laboratories are being built at the main Campus in Vigo, which also hosts state-of-the-art infrastructures for proteomics, medical bioinformatics, high-throughput sequencing, high-throughput screening, microscopy, biomarker discovery and other research platforms. The research areas of BIOCAPS include:

· Neurological Sciences and Rare Diseases
· Infectious Diseases, Inflammation and Immunity
· Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition
· Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine
· Novel Tools in Diagnosis and Therapy
· Aging and Cardiovascular Diseases.

BIOCAPS is recruiting two senior researchers with the following expertise (see below):
· Senior Researcher on IMAGING. Ref. BIOCAPS 11
· Senior Researcher on AGEING. Ref. BIOCAPS 12

Successful candidates are expected to initiate a new independent research program on the above topics with significant translational opportunities. We expect multidisciplinary research collaborations with other BIOCAPS research groups.

Requirements

MSc, PhD or equivalent degree, a track-record of publications in high-impact journals, and a proven record of previous attracted funding. The evaluation criteria are available at www.ibivigo.org.

Applications should include: a cover letter summarizing the applicant’s career and future plans (1 page), CV and a list of publications (past 10 years only, with 5 most significant publications indicated), short research plan (max 3 pages) with a summary of expected translational, medical or public health impact, and 3 references (name and contact information). The top candidates will be invited to visit Vigo for a lecture and discussions in English, and to provide a more detailed research plan as well as letters of reference. Employment terms:

· BIOCAPS will support the successful candidates with technical resources, technicians, consumables and modern laboratory facilities. Candidates are expected to be capable of attracting private/public funding and/or industrial collaborations in order to enhance research at IBIV.
· Salary: €48,000/year (Gross salary + employer social costs).
· Contract duration: until February 2016.

Position 11 Expert on IMAGING. Academic Degree PhD in Engineering, Physics, Informatics or similar. General Skills:

Extensive clinical experience in the field of cardiovascular imaging techniques, available to manage evaluation of any kind of imaging technique, data post-processing and software development. Basic research experience as leadership or research collaborator with participation in research projects where cardiovascular imaging is the main indicator.

Specific Imaging and Research Experience:

Experience as researcher and training and expertise in any kind of cardiovascular imaging technique, mainly magnetic resonance imaging, cardiac tomography, echocardiography and positron emission tomography. Knowledge and experience in 3D imaging, and imaging post-processing would be helpful. Broad experience the principles and techniques of data analysis and interpretation. Ability in software analysis development would be of interest. Possess solid understanding of any cardiovascular imaging technique, Dedicated scientist with exceptional organizational, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills and team work capacity.

Specific data management skills:

Computer-proficient in any kind of imaging processing software, commercial or not.
Language-proficient in English.

Position 12 Senior Researcher on AGEING. Academic Degree PhD on any Health sciences discipline. Skills:

Experience in research on ageing and its basic mechanisms, applied, clinical, epidemiological or translational research. Background on cardiovascular diseases would be valued.

General skills:

Extensive postdoctoral experience in the field of ageing-related diseases. Leadership or proven collaboration in the development of research projects dealing with the specified fields. Solid experience in data analysis, result interpretation and scientific manuscript preparation.
Language proficient in English.
Full-time disposal and dedication.
