Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
Leganés, Spain
Description
UC3M work is mainly focused on medical imaging technology research and the its use on challenging, state-of-the-art biomedical experiments. The group is markedly multidisciplinary covering from the engineering aspects of the detectors, devices and complete imaging systems to the design of probes aimed to specific biomarkers. It maintains a partnership with other university departments as well as with the main imaging services of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (Madrid); this facilitates the training possibilities and the translation of the results to clinical applications.
The ESR will work in the field of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for medical applications. The work focuses on the development of a PET detector compatible with Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems. The ESR will work on the different PET scanners available at UC3M and at the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón. The candidate will participate in network wide activities with ESRs from the other INFIERI partners involved in detectors development, with the electronics department at UC3M, and with other research centers and companies in Spain involved in PET imaging and microelectronics. The ESR will also participate actively in workshops, summer schools and conferences organized by the INFIERI network. The appointed researcher will be offered the possibility to pursue a doctorate degree with UC3M and obtain the PhD at the end of the 3-year appointment.
