PostDoc or PhD - Computational modeler of multicellular dynamics

Centre for Genomic Regulation
Barcelona, Spain

Description

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an innovative center for basic research created in December 2000 by initiative of the former Department of Universities, Research and Information Society (DURSI) of the Catalan Government. The CRG is legally constituted as a non-profit foundation and has the participation from the Catalan Government through the Economy and Knowledge Department (DECO) and the Health Department (DS), as well as from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN). It is an international biomedical research institute of excellence whose mission is to discover and advance knowledge for the benefit of society, public health and economic prosperity. James Sharpe is the acting coordinator of the EMBL-CRG Systems Biology program of the CRG, which studies many different aspects of systems biology. He is head of the laboratory for Systems Analysis of Development. We are located within the PRBB, a research park with state-of-the-art animal facilities, also including other research organisations pursuing developmental biology such as the CMBR and the UPF developmental biology department. The position will involve creating 3D Cellular Potts Models to explore two biological systems:

(a) The interactions of immune cells in the lymph node (T-cells and dendritic cells) during an immune response to infection. This will be done in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Maree at the John Innes Centre in Norwich.
(b) Elongation of the mouse limb bud during embryo development.
