Joint Research Centre
Petten, The Netherlands
Description:
Description:
The mission of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. Being a Directorate-General of the European Commission, the JRC functions as the inhouse science service of the Commission. The Energy Security Unit consists of a team with diverse academic backgrounds (economics, engineering, (geo-) politics and law) with good team spirit, and in order to meet the demands from our customers, specifically the
Directorate-General for Energy, we are now recruiting a researcher to the Security of Supply team. A central problem faced by Europe is to secure its energy supply. Domestic production of natural gas is in a decline and EU import dependency is rising. Unconventional gas, specifically shale gas, has the potential to provide a new source of domestic production, as has happened in the USA, and contribute to energy security. Also unconventional oil is gaining interest as it is now contributing to new oil production in north America.
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated research colleague to contribute to the following activities:
- Assessment of unconventional hydrocarbons and their potential impact on European energy security, its role in the energy mix, potential reserves, technological learning, economics and public acceptability.
