PostDoc - Specialization in remote sensing

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden - Rossendorf e. V. (HZDR)
Dresden, Germany
Deadline date: 15/11/2013

Description

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden - Rossendorf e. V. (HZDR) is a research centre with more than 1,000 employees and is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF). The scientific key aspects are in the field of matter, energy and health. The research is performed in eight scientific institutes which cooperate inside the HGF as well as the universities, extra-faculty institutes and the industry. Further information can be found at http://www.hzdr.de.
Focus of research at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology is the development of innovative technologies to increase energy and resource efficiency in the utilization of primary (e.g. ores) und secondary (anthropogenic) raw materials.
The Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral researcher (m/f) with specialization in remote sensing beginning 01.01.2014 for a period of two years.
We seek to appoint a specialist in remote sensing to step up the newly created remote sensing group at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF). The main aim of the remote sensing group is mineral exploration but the quantification of vegetation physical properties and surface processes is also envisaged. Expertise in hyperspectral data processing is explicitly recommended for the position but not exclusively.
The strength of the institute lies in the multidisciplinarity of our research activities. Therefore, the ability and the willingness of the candidates to work with colleagues from a large range of disciplines is indispensable. We invite young and flexible researchers keen to actively collaborate with other team members and familiar with the quantitative analysis of geospatial data to apply. The working languages of HIF are English and German. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English.
Tasks:
-Application of multi-source remote sensing methods for mineral exploration, the analysis of surface processes and vegetation change detection.
-Acquisition of and participation in third party funding projects, publications, scientific communications and report writing.

Requirements

-PhD in remote sensing or related field.
-Extensive knowledge of multi-source remote sensing processing.
-Sound understanding of quantitative methods.
-Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding.
-Interest in collaborative work within a multi-disciplinary international team.
-Good organization and communication skills.
