Description

The European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser Facility GmbH (European XFEL GmbH, Hamburg, Germany) is a multi-national non-profit company. It will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. Located in the Hamburg area, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway; its commissioning is scheduled for 2015.
The X-ray diagnostics group is developing and constructing the devices for characterisation of the photon beam. We are looking for a Scientist for imaging stations (f/m).
The position:
 - develop the optical visualisation monitors (2-D imagers, beam viewers): technical specifications, design, provision and commissioning.
 - be responsible for the device group of invasive photon diagnostics systems.
 - work in collaboration projects and perform experiments together with other group members to verify the function of diagnostics equipment.
 - supervise and support engineers and interact with suppliers/workshop during the construction of prototypes and final devices.
 - interface with scientists and engineers in related work packages.

Requirements

 - degree in physics or equivalent academic education.
 - solid background in design and application of optical systems, imaging devices and X-ray instrumentation.
 - self-responsible, independent work in accordance with mutually defined objectives, while also integrating into an international team.
Having some of the following experiences woud be considered and asset:
 - experimental experience with diagnostics of short-wavelength photons.
 - familiarity with design, construction and operation of experimental systems (ultra-high vacuum, mechanics, detectors, electronics, DAQ).
 - experience in measurement campaigns at large-scale light sources.
