Description
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Tenerife, Spain), a leading Astrophysical Center in Spain, invites applications for ONE postdoctoral research position within the framework of the IAC-MAGIC Agreement (P/300461).
Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: cosmology and the structure of the Universe, galactic astrophysics, the structure and evolution of stars, the interstellar medium, solar physics, telescope design and construction, high spatial resolution techniques, infrared and optical instrumentation, and astronomical space projects. The IAC has been selected as a “Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence” in research by the Spanish Government. The purpose of the position is to work as a post-doctoral researcher within the framework of the IAC-MAGIC Agreement. The researcher will spend a 75% of her/his time at the IAC headquarters on Tenerife and the remaining 25% at the MAGIC offices at the CALP on La Palma and the MAGIC telescopes sited on the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory.
Tasks:
Joining the Particle Astrophysics Group of the IAC, participating in research tasks carried out within its framework;
Provide support and advise to the students in the aforementioned group with regard to the use of the telescopes and the analysis of data;
Participation in the analysis of data obtained with the MAGIC telescopes;
Participation in IAC observing campaigns at the MAGIC telescopes sited at the ORM in La Palma.
Requirements
Doctorate: Applicants must prove that they have completed their Ph.D. in Astrophysics or Physics by the closing date for submission of applications (30th September, 2013).
NOTE: Applicants who have prepared their Ph.D. thesis at the IAC must present accreditation of having spent one continuous year, or 18 accumulated months, in other research institutes.

Duration: Three years, starting the fourth trimester of 2013.
Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 32.886 € per annum, subject to up to 20% tax and Social Security deductions (depending on the personal situation of the candidate). Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided for the candidate, and will also cover spouse or registered partner (de facto partner) and children (if relevant).
Travel funds: The position includes ample funds for travel (conferences, workshops, observing runs, collaboration stays, etc.)
Relocation allowance: This call includes a relocation allowance for the selected candidate comprising: the cost of a flight ticket (booked and issued by the IAC), a stay at the Hotel Príncipe Paz for up to two weeks (organised by the IAC) and per diem rate up to two weeks. The maximum IAC will reimburse is 2,000 Euros.
Non-UE citizens: If you are citizen of a country not belonging to the European Union, you can apply for this position, but if selected, you will not be allowed to sign the contract with the IAC until you obtain the compulsory documentation required to live and work in Spain (NIE card).
