Scientist

Synchrotron Radiation Facility
Barcelona, Spain

Description

ALBA is the Spanish Synchrotron Radiation Facility operated by the Consortium CELLS, which is equally funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Economía y Competividad) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament d'Economia i Coneixement). ALBA consists of a complex of electron accelerators whose objective are to generate extremely brilliant synchrotron light beams with photon energies spanning from the infrared to the hard X-ray region. The beamline scientist will join the BOREAS beamline team (http://www.cells.es/Beamlines/VP/). Function:

- To provide support to public and industrial users of BOREAS beamline.
- To collaborate with the beamline staff on beamline upgrades, commissioning and maintenance of the beamline instrumentation.
- To carry out research with soft X-ray absorption techniques, in particular those of Magnetic Linear and Circular Dichroism.
- To contribute to the analysis of results (using sum rules, multiplet simulations of XAS spectra, others) and their publication.

Requirements

- The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a closely related discipline.
- He/she must have sound experience in Magnetic Linear and Circular Dichroism soft X-ray absorption measurements using high-field cryomagnets. He/she is expected to have expertise on the analysis of soft x-ray absorption spectra, and a certain background in magnetism and magnetic materials.
- Additional experience on surface science techniques and UHV instrumentation (LEED, sample preparation, e-beam evaporation, and STM/AFM microscopy) will be an added value. In addition to that, he/she should have adaptability to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment, sense of responsibility and ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
