Optical sensor technology for vegetation monitoring

Description

The Institute for Applied Remote Sensing at the European Academy Bolzano (EURAC) is looking for an Expert in optical sensor technology for vegetation monitoring. Task:

The candidate will be responsible for ground based and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) based field measurements of vegetation parameters and other environmental parameters (soil moisture, weather data) with a focus on agriculture areas (grasslands, orchards) and forest.

Activities:

Concept and setup (choice of the best sensors, etc)
UAV: planning and execution of flight campaigns, optical data acquisition, geometric correction
Field spectrometer campaigns
Installation of ground based sensor networks
Technical maintenance of Hardware (UAV, Camera, field spectrometer, ground sensors) and Software
Data quality check, data pre-processing
Support the integrated analysis of sensor data together with data from satellite remote sensing and other data sources

Requirements

Degree in physics, informatics/telecommunication engineering or similar qualification
Experience in drone flight campaigns and field spectrometry
Knowledge in monitoring of vegetation
Experience in development and customization of optical sensing setup
Knowledge in Linux OS and shell scripting
Experience in Matlab and R+ are welcome
Experience in image processing and signal processing
Experience in analogue and digital electronics
Good skills in analytical thinking, oriented to the problem solving
Ability in team working, good communication, motivation to learn and flexibility
Very good English (+ good German and / or Italian desirable)
