PhD - Organic synthesis of nitrogen-containig compounds - 2 vacancies

Universitat de Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain

Description

An Early Stage Researcher position is offered in the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) "Expanding Capability in Heterocyclic Organic Synthesis" (ECHONET). The main research objective is to apply and develop new methodologies that can be utilized to prepare novel heterocyclic compounds for application such as agrochemicals or agrochemical intermediates. This post is part of the ECHONET training network involving 10 partners belonging to 6 European countries from academia and industrial laboratories. ECHONET is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) for early stage researchers and experienced researchers funded by the European Commission under the FP7 'People' Programme. This particular PhD project is focused on organic synthesis of nitrogen-containing compounds in total synthesis of natural products, covering a broad spectrum of synthetic methodology, from organocatalyzed to radical reactions. The research activities will be held in the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of the Barcelona UB (Spain), and the project is envisioned as a theoretical support to the synthetic methods developed in the experimental network partners. In this regard, possible collaborations and secondments are planned and could take place in some of the ECHONET partners (e. g. Future Chemistry (NDL) “Employment of organocatalysts in flow for large scale synthesis of enantioenriched azabicycles”; Bayer (Germany) “Determination of herbicidal activity and gathering preliminary SAR data of novel azabicycles”. Hands-on training will be supplemented by formal training courses in relevant and related fields, as well as a wide variety of complementary training courses, summer schools and seminars.

Requirements

The applicant should hold a master degree in chemistry or related field with focus on organic synthesis. Experience in laboratory research will be considered. In addition, knowledge in reaction mechanisms and NMR analysis is important.

More information and applications

Applications are welcomed from applicants regardless of gender or nationality but they must comply with the mobility rule, specifying that they have not resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of the host organization (Spain) for more than 12 months in the 3 years before recruitment (calculated at the date of recruitment). Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account. Further details are available at

Applicants should submit their CV, including a presentation letter and at least one academic reference, by e-mail to josep.bonjoch@ub.edu
