Centro Nacional de Aceleradores
Sevilla, Spain
Description
Design a detection system for verifying a 2D method of image reconstruction for Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy Treatment. The trainee will become an expert in different types of detectors and the associated electronics, data acquisition system and data analysis. The ESR will work in collaboration with the Radio-Physics department of the Virgin Macarena Hospital, in Seville, by defining measurements protocols, with the engineers of the School of Engineering by integrating the mechanical and electronic system to the data taking and analysis system designed for treatments verification and with the CNA-USE by measuring, analysing and interpreting data. Technical skills like mechanical design and knowledge on software of analysis (Matlab, labVIEW, Origin etc) will be required and/or developed. On the physics/engineering side, the ESR will learn about reconstruction methods based on Radon transform and its interface with the electronics and data analysis system. On the Medical and Radio-Physics side, the ESR will help the research group to deeply interact with clinical environment (software, protocols, treatments, diseases among others). The project would be supervised by Drs Marcos Álvarez (malvarez@us.es) and Jose Espino (espino@us.es ).
Requirements
The candidate must have a degree in physics or engineering. Experience in detector instumentation, medical physics or experimental nuclear physics will be appreciated. The candidate must be, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree (Master, or equivalent) which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate. Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.
