PostDoc - Male fertility factors in the malaria mosquito

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

Postdoctoral position (up to 15 months) available immediately at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK) to study male fertility factors in the malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae. The successful applicant will be working in the following areas:

 

- Characterization of temporal and spatial expression patterns of testis-expressed candidate genes via RT-PCR, Northern blot, in situ hybridization and immunolocalization
- Functional genomic analysis of transcripts using gene knockdown
- Generation and molecular characterization of transgenic mosquito lines
- Preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.

Ambitious and self-motivated researchers holding a PhD degree, with a good command of English and a working knowledge of molecular biology methods used for analysis of transcription are particularly encouraged to apply. Previous experience in working on mosquitoes, insect RNAi or transgenesis would be desirable, but not essential.
