AIV engineeer for astronomical instruments

Description
 
The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy is one of the leading astronomical research institutes worldwide. It develops instrumentation for ground based telescopes as well as for space missions. We seek for the earliest possible date an AIV‐Engineer for optical systems (Reference # 13‐03) for the integration, alignment and verification of astronomical instruments. The position is offered for two years. The AIV‐engineer for optical systems will work in a project team that develops, integrates and test astronomical instrumentation. In this position, he/she will also interact closely with the scientists of the institute. The detailed
assignments comprise:
 
‐ Integration and alignment of complex, optical instruments.
‐ Optical measurement techniques e.g. interferometry, auto‐collimation, image processing, etc.
‐ Design and assembly of optical setups for acceptance and verification tests.
‐ Accomplishment of acceptance and verification procedures.
‐ Documentation of these procedures.
 
Requirements
 
‐ A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or physics or equivalent qualification.
‐ Good knowledge of optics and measurement techniques.
‐ Ideally you have experience with the software ProEngineer and/or ZEMAX.
‐ Good knowledge of English for working in international teams.
‐ Ability to work in a team.
‐ Willingness to work abroad for limited periods to install and commission astronomical instruments.
‐ A basic knowledge of German would be an asset.
