Researcher - Anaerobic digestion

Agua, Energía y Medio Ambiente, Servicios Integrales, S.L.
La Rioja, Spain

Description

Applications are open for an Experienced Researcher/Postdoctoral fellow to be part of the project AD-WINE, which is a Marie Curie IAPP collaborative project, funded under FP7. The Coordinator for the AD-WINE project is Dr. Estíbaliz Huete, from the Spanish company AEMA. The consortium is composed of 5 partners, AEMA and 4 Research organisations, University of Newcastle (United Kingdom), Leibniz Universität Hannover (Germany), Consorzio di Ricerche Applicate alla Biotecnologia (Italy) and Institut Français de la Vigne et du Vin (France). The aim of the project is to develop a new anaerobic treatment, using high performance digesters adapted to the treatment of the wineries’ effluent. The use of a high performance anaerobic system would reduce operation energetic costs, would significantly reduce the production of sludge, and would lower the operation costs of the plant. The consortium brings together five European organizations from the commercial and non-commercial sector, with complementary knowledge. It will enable the collaboration of 14 researches of all levels, who will have the opportunity to move from country and sector for short and long term durations. The consortium will provide multidisciplinary training in the anaerobic digestion, designing and modeling, and also in the wineries wastes production and management. To complement the research team taking part in the AD-WINE project, AEMA is looking for a researcher with experience in the field of anaerobic digestion, in order to carry out the tasks foreseen in the project. Objectives of the project:

- Evaluation of the application and viability of high performance anaerobic digestion for the treatment of medium size wineries’ effluents.
- To study different designs for the construction of an anaerobic digester, select the best one and design a prototype to test with winery effluent.
- To perform experimental job with the prototype and modify the necessary elements to perform properly.
- Development a mathematical model to design and reproduce the performance of the digester.
- To set mathematical and engineering rules to scale the prototype.

Requirements

- PhD or equivalent in Environmental science
- Excellent level of English. Working knowledge of Spanish appreciated. Knowledge of French and/or Italian an asset.
