Description
Applications are invited for the full-time post of Detector Scientist for the Visible Instrument on the ESA Euclid dark-energy mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for the array of 36 large area e2v CCDs which form the heart of the instrument. The post holder will act as Detector Scientist for the Visible Instrument (VIS) on the Euclid mission under development for the ESA Cosmic Vision programme. MSSL is responsible for the focal plane of 36 e2v CCDs that form the heart of the VIS instrument. As part of the instrument study and development team, the post-holder will be expected to:
- Develop the test programme for the CCD273 devices being developed for Euclid by e2v
- Lead the Euclid detector test team at MSSL and carry out elements of the detector testing in the MSSL laboratories
- Support the testing of the VIS instrument at test sites in Europe
- Support integration of the VIS instrument into the spacecraft, and subsequent testing
- Develop and maintain calibration software
- Maintain database of detector test data and deliver products to the Euclid ground system
Requirements
A PhD in astronomy, space science or instrumentation is essential, ideally including experience with CCDs.
