PostDoc - Novel nanomaterials

ICFO
Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain

Description:

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to join the Solution Processed Nanophotonic Devices Group and work within a European Consortium in a Future Emerging Technologies Project (FP7-FET-ENERGY) coordinated by ICFO on the development, of Novel Nanomaterials for Solid-State Dye Sensitized Solar Cells. This is a European collaborative R&D project whose aim is to break the efficiency limits of current DSSCs by utilizing novel nanomaterials and architectures compatible with low temperature processing and low-cost manufacturing. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary group of chemists, physicists and engineers, led by Dr Gerasimos Konstantatos at ICFO. The successful candidate will develop and characterize SS-DSSCs in collaboration with renowned European research partners including Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL), Imperial College London and Technical University of Eindhoven as well as an industrial partner leader in the manufacturing and development of third generation, DSSC on flexible substrates.

Responsibilities/ duties:

- To develop and characterize SS-DSSCs in collaboration with the other partners.
- To supervize and mentor less senior research staff involved in the research project
- To make a significant contribution to internal and external project meetings and to present published data.
- To liaise with all partners in the Consortium and assist the Project Manager regarding preparation of technical reports, organization of meetings, workshops and other events
- To prepare manuscripts for peer review and publication in scientific journals.
- To keep up to date with developments in DSSC technology and in other topics related to the currently main research projects
- To take responsibility for the development and training of other staff employed on the project or within the research group as necessary and appropriate.

The successful candidate should have broad expertise in the development and characterization of solid-state dye sensitized solar cells demonstrated by high impact scientific publications and attendance in international conferences. The candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, applied physics, material science or electrical engineering. Candidate’s expertise should lie in device fabrication and characterization as well as advanced optoelectronic characterization techniques to determine carrier lifetime and mobility in DSSC devices. The candidate should be willing to work independently under minor supervision. Excellent English language skills, social skills, and international experience are needed.

Desirable:

A multi-disciplinary background is favorable.
Given the nature of the project, prior expertise with European projects is desirable .
