PostDoc - Computational Systems Biologist

Institute for Research in Biomedicine
Barcelona, Spain

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Structural Bioinformatics & Network Biology Group (Principal Investigator Prof. Patrick Aloy) at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB). The successful candidate will work in computational systems biology, more precisely, in the integration of different types of biological data (mainly from proteomics and metabolomics) to build functional models of stem cell aging. The position is associated to a recently funded EU FP7 project, SyStemAge, which aims at understanding age-associated functional alterations in somatic stem cells and their microenvironment. In particular, we intend to apply integrative systems biology approaches to characterize the molecular players, genes and pathways that are associated with physiological processes of ageing and age-related disorders, such as MDS and B-CLL. Finally, we will exploit the resulting models of ageing to develop novel, molecular targeted strategies to treat age-related diseases.

Candidates should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about science, with an ability to think creatively and work independently. The applicant should have a good background in cell and molecular biology, with reasonable exposure to protein interactions and omics technologies. He or she should also have good computing skills and programming/scripting experience. Previous experience with handling large-scale biological data would be an asset.

To apply, please send a cover letter summarizing your past experience, research interests and career goals and CV including the names and contact information of 2-3 references.
