Description
We are now inviting applications for the position of Research Line Manager in the area of POWER STORAGE; BATTERIES AND SUPERCAPS (EES), to lead the batteries Post Mortem Analysis research line.
CIC Energigune is a new energy research centre based in the Basque Country of Spain. Its mission is to play a leading role on the international stage in the field of energy storage technologies and contribute to the industrial competitiveness of Basque Country. CIC has a world-class research facility, cutting-edge equipments, an experienced management team, and a scientific committee composed of prominent scientists, entrepreneurs, and industrial experts.
We are looking for highly skilled and motivated individual to:
- Lead the research activities within the Post Mortem Analysis research line area.
- Write proposals to secure funding from government and industrial sources.
- Hands-on ability to guide scientists in the lab.
- Manage a team of scientists, post-doctors, and technicians.
- Coordinate collaborations with industries, universities, and other technical centers.

- A PhD in Solid-state chemistry, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related fields is required, as well as > 3 years direct R&D experience in batteries post mortem analysis.
- The person must have proven experience in opening aged cells in a safe state of charge, separation of electrodes/separators, and preparation of samples for subsequent chemical physical and electrochemical analysis with the specific goal of determining the origins of the failure mechanism, making correlations between ageing parameters and material degradation and providing solutions to optimize the cycling and calendar life of the different systems (Li or Na-ion cells) investigated.
- The researcher will also have experience in different characterization technics (XRD, SEM, Optical microscopy, Raman, FTIR-ATR, EIS, XPS, cyclic voltammetry, ICP, physical inspection of the components)
- Proven leadership and management skills and team building experience.
- Record of directing multi-year research and development programs.
- Applicants should be fluent in English. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Basque will be considered useful but not compulsory.
