Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias
Tenerife, Spain
Description
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias invites applications for one postdoctoral contract within the framework of the project entitled “Participation of the IAC in the CoRoT space mission” (AYA2012-39346-C02-02, PI: Dr. Hans J. Deeg). For this project, we are coordinating the ground based photometric follow-up of CoRoT’s extrasolar planet-candidates, to which we contribute with frequent own observations, and are performing in-depth characterizations of detected planets. The successful candidate will participate in the astrophysical analysis of CoRoT data. For the ground-based follow-up of CoRoT data, the appointee is expected to lead the IAC's observations towards that programme, which includes their planning, performing, analysis and publication. Experience in astronomical observations and their analysis, with a background in photometry and the study of extrasolar planets, is therefore highly valued. Several projects that are based on CoRoT’s results are currently being advanced, and the appointee is encouraged to participate in these, as well as to develop own research lines, preferably centered on the detection or characterization of exoplanets or on stellar variability studies. At IAC, she/he will have access to the Canary Islands' telescopes, including the 10m GTC telescope, as well as to telescopes belonging to ESO.
