Description
A PhD position is available in the framework of the project "Meteorite accumulations of Arabia". The qualified applicant will develop a 14C extraction line in collaboration with specialists at the Physics Institute, University of Bern and measure terrestrial ages of pure mineral separates of meteorites to be prepared using electrodynamic fragmentation. Data will be used to better understand the terrestrial age distribution of the meteorite population from Arabia. The applicant will also conduct analyses of a new lunar meteorite and will participate in our meteorite search in Arabia.
Requirements
To qualify, the candidate must have a degree (diploma/master) in Physics or Earth Sciences, preferably with experience in the field of meteorites, noble gases or cosmogenic isotopes. The applicant must have a solid knowledge of English. The position is open beginning January 2013 and limited to a duration of 3 years. Payment is according to the rules of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
