Research Associate - Intelligent Energy

The Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya, an advanced research center established in Barcelona (Spain), is devoted to fundamental and applied R&D related to the physical and lower layers of communications systems. Currently, the CTTC is interested in filling a Research Associate position in Intelligent Energy.
 
Intelligent Energy (Ref. 4/2012-2, 1 position): The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or related disciplines, should have implementation and practical experience in the area of wireless communications for smart grids, and be motivated and team player. The following specialization areas are of interest: embedded programming of FPGA/DSP/uC/etc, wireless communications protocols at MAC and networking layer, multi-RAT knowledge (IEEE 802.15.4, Low Power Wifi, LTE), and smart grid. The researcher will contribute to the development and maintenance of an experimental platform (testbed) related to the scope of the area with the aim to validate research on the various aspects of M2M for smart grids, attract funding and, importantly, facilitate spin-off companies with market impact.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 
Applicants for Research Associate positions must hold a Ph.D. degree in telecommunications, computer science, electrical or power engineering, or related fields; be very motivated, work independently whilst cooperating with the local team; have track record and capacity of carrying out experimental work and interact with researchers as well as technology transfer staff. Research and industrial work experience as well as participation in international and national R&D projects, as well as experience with startups, is all highly appreciated.
 
CONDITIONS
 
The position is permanent. The rank and salary, in the range 34,000 - 37,000 €/year (gross), will be determined according to qualifications and work experience.
